Nellie Sweat Caulder, 84, of West Columbia, died Saturday, December 5, 2015. Born June 12, 1931 to the late Thomas and Vera Haynes Sweat, she was a seamstress and homemaker. Nellie was known for her famous biscuits and enjoyed cooking for her family. People knew her as a person who was dedicated to taking care of her family and those in need.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah C. Brown; son, Donald Wayne Caulder; grandchildren, Scott M. Brown, Kimberly C. (Jacob) Hare, and Kayla Caulder; great grandchildren, Kristi and Hayden Brown, Jay and Jeremy Hare and Emily Peake; brothers, Elbert "Pee Wee" (Connie) Sweat, Sam Sweat; sisters, Tommy J. Gauntt and Helen (DeWitt) Atkinson. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Caulder; five sisters, and three brothers.
A funeral service, officiated by The Rev. Kenneth Walker and The Rev. DeWitt Atkinson, will be held 11 o'clock, Tuesday, December 8th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock. Burial will follow at Florence National Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the charity of one's choice.
