Neta Fern Birchfield Brooks-Lail, 92, of Ridgeway, died on Friday, March 22, 2024. Born in Ardmore, OK, on November 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Edward Birchfield and Ellen Gertrude Young Birchfield. She was a longtime member of Spring Valley Baptist Church and worked in data entry for Fort Jackson and SCANNA Corporation. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, sewing and traveling. Mrs. Brooks-Lail was also known to have the ability to play the psaltery and dulcimer.

Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Lewis (Dennis); son, Kimbel Owen Brooks (Kathy); grandchildren, Brian James Brooks, Brooke Hope Cartrette, Marie Lewis Brigman (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Jackson Cartrette, Kennedy Cartrette, Hunter Brooks, Nathan Brigman, McKinley Cartrette; and great-great grandchild, Reese Brooks Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Calvin Brooks; second husband, William Thomas Lail; grandson, Christopher Troy Brooks; and 3 brothers.

The funeral service for Mrs. Brooks-Lail will be held at 11 o'clock, Thursday, March 28th, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, with Rev. Amy Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Brian Brooks, Hunter Brooks, Jackson Cartrette, Nathaniel Brigman, Andrew Brigman and Joseph Lewis.
