Nina Kolb Percival's Obituary

Nina Kolb Percival, of Columbia, S. C. passed away peacefully Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the age of 103. Nina was born on April 16, 1914 to Irene Thigpen Kolb Bradham and Benjamin Franklin Kolb. A woman of great faith, Nina demonstrated her Christianity through a life of devoted witness. She read the Bible in its entirety dozens of times. Many benefitted from her extensive prayer list and her personal testimony of the love of Jesus Christ.

Nina was known for her beauty, inside and out. She was a homemaker for many years, a loving wife, mother, grandmother. She worked as a seamstress, and a private caregiver. Remembered for her cooking, she was always ready with a full meal on the stove when company arrived. Countless cakes, pies, and favorite dishes were delivered to friends, family or others in need throughout the years. She enjoyed writing poetry. Very dear to her was the annual Christmas poem she shared with loved ones throughout the years; just another way she touched the lives of others.

She was widowed at age 58, and lived alone until age 95, then retired to The Lowman Home, where she was lovingly cared for by their dedicated staff and remained active until recent months. Even after she was 100 years old, when asked about her day, she would answer, "I've been up and down the hall visiting old people." This was her joy. But, her greatest joy was her family. She loved to recount sweet stories of her childhood. She was especially proud of her children and their families, by whom she will be greatly missed.

Nina is survived by her three children, Loretta (Jim) Rucker and Dupre (Gina) Percival, Jr, all of Columbia and Franklin Percival of Gainesville, Florida; grandchildren, Donna (Dennis) Cook, Pam (Dan) Russell, Larry (Marcie) Percival, Bobby (Michelle) Percival, Anna Percival; great grandchildren, Parker (Ryan) Hennington, Blaine Cook, Cody Russell, Madeleine Percival, Grace Percival, Caroline Percival; great-great grandchildren, Rex Hennington and Olivia Hennington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and special family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, L. Dupre Percival, Sr., sister, Alice Hatfield and William Lackey, both of Sumter, South Carolina, and daughter-in-law, Cheyne Tuggle Percival of Gainesville, Florida.

A funeral service will be held Friday, March 16th at St. Andrews Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The service will be held at 12 noon followed by a reception at 1:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The burial at Elmwood Cemetery will be private. Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Percival, Bobby Percival, Parker Hennington, Cody Russell, Blaine Cook and Ferrell Percival. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Andrews Baptist Church.
