Nivia S. Mursuli went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 16, 2019, surrounded by her family. Nivia was born on March 31, 1934 in Holguin, Cuba, to the late Maximo and Ceida Montero Soler. She gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She married Daniel J. Mursuli, Sr. on August 7, 1954. In 1960, Nivia, her husband and two children fled Cuba to the United States, where she has lived ever since. She and Daniel eventually had two more children. On November 13, 1981 she became a United States citizen.
Nivia loved the Lord and served in many capacities in the churches where she was a member. Her last membership was at Trinity Baptist Church in Lugoff, SC and she loved working with Helping Hands, a sewing auxiliary club in the church. Nivia always was willing to lend a helping hand wherever she was needed. Nivia even traveled back to Cuba in 2016 as part of a missionary team at the age of 82.
Surviving are her four children: Nivia Erikson (Steve) of Matthews, NC, Daniel J. Mursuli, Jr. (Donna), of Lugoff, SC, Vincent Mursuli of Lugoff, SC, Mimi Davis (Jerry), of Polk City, FL; six grandchildren, Corey Mursuli, Alisa Mursuli, Nathan Mursuli, Natalie Mursuli, Gabriela Davis and Miles Davis; five great-grandchildren, Bryce Mursuli, Chandler Mursuli, Emma Hartt, Ethan Hartt, Collin Mursuli; a brother, Jose Soler (Claris) of Lugoff, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews. Nivia was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 58 years, Daniel Jose Mursuli, Sr.; a brother, Maximo Soler, Jr.; three sisters, Daisy Soler, Chelo Young and Onedia Floyd.
The funeral service for Mrs. Mursuli will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, June 22nd, at Trinity Baptist Church, 1062 Ridgeway Rd, Lugoff, with The Rev. Dr. Charles Everett officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, 11020 Two Notch Rd, Elgin. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock, Friday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road, Ext., Columbia.
In honor of Mami, the family invites you to wear something red in remembrance of her favorite color. Serving as pallberares will be Charles Nichols, Russel Hasseldon, Murray Odom, Tim LeMoine, H. Carl Floyd, and Allen Watts.
