Norman "Pop" J. Leaisure, Sr., 85, of Lexington, died Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Born in Chester, WV, on August 21, 1933, he was the son of the late Okey W. Leaisure, Sr. and the late Bernice Newman Leaisure. He was a US Army retiree who honorably served his country for 20 years. During his enlistment, Mr. Leaisure was deployed in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars where he received many commendations. After his military retirement, he enjoyed a 30-year career with the Richland County Sheriff's Department. When Mr. Leaisure wasn't serving his country or community, he enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Peggy Ann Myrick Leaisure; children, Angela Stone (Kenneth) of Columbia, Norman J. "Jim" Leaisure, Jr. of Lexington; grandchildren, Jeffrey Nettles (Courtney), Matthew Nettles (Megan), James Leaisure (Kristen), Alexander Leaisure, Brandon Leaisure (Braylea), and Ashton Leaisure; great-grandchildren, Xiyah, Londyn, Allison, Everett, Chloe, Jamia, and Benjamin; sister, Judy Swope; as well as his dog, Clyde. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Okey W. Leaisure, Jr., Orville Leaisure, and Thelma Bennett; as well as a great granddaughter, Laney Nettles.
The graveside service for Mr. Leaisure will be held at 2 o'clock, Monday, November 5th at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Rd, Lexington, SC. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o'clock, Sunday afternoon at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. The family will also receive friends prior to the graveside service at the residence of his daughter.
