Born on November 24, 1946, in West Columbia to Olin Christus and Nancy Rector Shull, Olin Christus (Chris) Shull Jr passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 3, 2024. Chris is survived by his wife of 34 years, Elizabeth (Beth) Grimes Shull and her family, including many special nieces and nephews whom he loved entertaining and teaching, as well as his first cousin Dr. Louis F. Jourdan of Mableton, Georgia.
Chris graduated from Brookland Cayce High School and attended Clemson University, Spartanburg Methodist College and graduated from Wofford College where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. After enlisting in the Marines in 1972 Chris was a member of the Marine Reserves for six years. During Chris' banking career at South Carolina National Bank, he graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Banking. After his banking career Chris worked in commercial real estate with The Keenan Company and then formed his own company, CS Commercial.
Chris was inducted into the Brookland Cayce Hall of Fame in 2018 for baseball, football, and basketball. He was an avid fan of all Clemson sports having played baseball there his freshman year. He loved playing golf with his friends at Lexington Country Club, fishing, and deer hunting at Butterfield Plantation in Allendale until a stroke in 2016 restricted these hobbies. He was a member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church and previously served as chairman of Staff Parish Relations. Chris was blessed with a strong faith which was strengthened through his many years of health challenges. His final journey was calm and peaceful knowing the joys of eternal life were waiting for him.
Special thanks to Heart of Hospice and Nettie Canady for their recent support, and Rachel Twiggs and Right at Home for many years of caregiving for Chris. In Chris' memory please go see a friend who can't come see you, and many thanks to dear friends and family who visited Chris after his stroke and lifted his spirits.
A private family memorial service will be held at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church with Larry Hays presiding. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
