Pamela Williams Daly's Obituary

Pamela "Pam" Williams Daly, 63, passed to her heavenly home on Saturday morning, April 11, 2015. A caring wife, a loving mother, an adoring grandmother, a church volunteer, and a do-anything-for-anybody friend of many, Pam was never at a loss for things to do or people to help in her family and community. Her unexpected passing leaves a void in all who knew her.

Pam grew up in "The Village" on the Irmo side of the Lake Murray Dam where her father worked for SCE&G. She graduated from Irmo High School in 1969. Upon graduation, Pam went to work for the University of South Carolina. She later worked in the Governor's office, Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, and finally at the State Fire Marshall's Office. She annually took South Carolina children who were injured by fires to the Burn Camp in Orlando, Florida. Pam was a public servant for the State of South Carolina for 35 years. She worked her "fun job" at Parisian in Columbiana Mall from 1995 until 2002 to help put her daughter through college. And, upon her retirement, she worked for Pye Barker in Irmo from 2006 until 2014.

Pam made friends wherever she went and worked, not only because of her outgoing personality, but because she was always ready to lend a hand or give a kindness to others in times of need.
Pam succeeded at everything she tried and was able to balance her vocation, her hobbies (especially sewing and embroidery), her church obligations, and her family life. She somehow excelled at everything with joy and exacting standards.

She did all things with few complaints, but Pam was never shy in giving her opinion. She was thorough in her research of any problem, and she had a great ability to read the people around her. Her advice always reflected a knowledge that gave wise counsel to those she loved – and those she loved were many.

Those she loved best were clear to those around her. Her daughter, Pamela, was her light and her life for 38 years. Pam shared Pamela's every accomplishment with pride, and supported her every dream, and she always pushed her daughter to reach for her best. They worked on everything: from schoolwork, to sewing, to political campaigns, to raising children – and in everything they were inseparable. Together, mother and daughter faced the world and created a bright patch around them that all could see.

In 1994 she met Jim Daly. Their relationship was feisty, fun, fruitful, loving, and something that you had to see to believe. They were married in 2003 and in the following years they supported each other, cared for one another, and complimented each other. She was Southern, he a Yankee, but their personalities and their taste for adventure – living every day to accomplish something special – left those around them in awe of their energy and love.

In 2000, Pam met Pamela's husband-to-be, David, and from that point forward she was his biggest fan. Pam supported and loved him as if he were her own son. Pam made David a part of her life as if he'd been there from the beginning, and her encouragement and constant devotion gave this new family an uncommon strength as they grew larger together.

If Pam loved her daughter Pamela, her husband Jim, and her son-in-law David, she was "in love" with her grandchildren, as only a grandmother (dubbed "Ninnie") could be. Preston, Daly, and Gibson ignited a wonder in her that expanded her love and energy. Pam lived and loved a lifetime in the past ten years, devoting herself to her grandchildren's care and happiness. She was overwhelmed with joy by them, never missing a school performance, game, recital, or family dinner – and she was always the first to share her most recent moment with "her grands" with anyone who would listen.

Her growing family also gave wings to her faith. Pam was always a volunteer the church could count on – especially enjoying her time in the nursery, making and delivering packages for shut-in members, and as an usher for church services. Her involvement at the church with her family gave her almost as much joy as those she touched were gladdened by her presence.

Pam was predeceased by her father and mother, Lawrence and Lillian Williams, and a brother, Kenny Williams. She leaves behind her husband, James "Jim" Patrick Daly; sisters, Claudia Cope and Darlene "Punky" Cline (Dave); and a brother, Larry Williams (Miriam); her daughter, Pamela Deweese Adams (David); and three grandchildren, Preston, Daly, and Gibson; her nephews, Kenny, Scott, Stevie, Jamie, John and Mac; as well as her nieces, Amy and Eve; her "Uncle Ronnie" Rodney Williams and his family, Renetta, Robert, Craig, and Megan.

A service celebrating Pam's life will be held 11 o'clock, Thursday, April 16th, at Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine St, Columbia, after which the family will greet friends in Player Hall. A private burial will follow in Dutch Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
