Pastor Douglas Odell Benton, 70, of Irmo, died Saturday, January 27, 2024. Born November 21, 1953, in Montgomery, Alabama, he was a son of the late Douglas O. Benton and Georgia Adams Benton. Over a span of a quarter century Pastor Benton served eight Methodist congregations in South Carolina and Western North Carolina.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Benton; children, Jason Pittman (Lena) of Prattville, AL, Jamie Kittle (Rob) of North Augusta, SC, Chris Benton of Aiken, SC, Laura Jumper (Steven) of Gilbert, SC, and Anna Berger (Bart) of Lexington, SC; adopted family and Carrie's children, April Hutto of Columbia, SC, Barry Hutto (Sara) of Santa Cruz, CA, and Mark Hutto (Priscilla) of Greeneville, TN; grandchildren, Bethany, Samantha, Nathaniel, Chandler, Harley, Michael, Dustin, Colton, Mason, Matthew, Emma, Kaitlyn, Michael, Jovie, Wilder, Levi, Joshua, and Amira; great grandchildren, Blakelynn, Addilynn, Addley, Paxton, and Knox; brothers, John Benton (Kimberly) of Montgomery, AL and George C. Benton (Buffie) of Elmore, AL; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Risinger Benton.
A service of worship for Pastor Benton will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 10 at Chapin Christian Community Church, 415 Lexington Ave, Chapin, SC with Pastor Jody Flowers and Pastor Jason Pittman officiating. The family will host a reception following the worship service in the fellowship hall.
