Obituary

Patricia Jones Stevenson, 66, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024. She was a daughter of the late Austin Talley Jones and Jean Semple Jones. Patricia was born in Michigan but lived majority of her life in South Carolina. She was a life-long member of Saint Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal church, especially in the youth and children's program.

Patricia was an avid Clemson fan and lover of animals. From an early age, she showed an intense passion for music, animals, sports, and caring for others that would define her life. Growing up in Columbia in the home of a World War II veteran, Patricia (or Pat, Sam, or Tricia) developed a strong sense of patriotism, loyalty, and social consciousness that guided her actions and decisions. After graduating from Keenan High School, Patricia attended Midlands Technical College where she spent four years earning her Associates of Science and the title of Radiologic Technologist.

In 1977, Patricia began a career in health care at Richland Memorial Hospital that spanned 46 years. She worked in X-ray for twenty-three years, training multiple new colleagues and earning the praise of everyone she worked with for her professionalism and skill. In 2000, as imaging became digital, Patricia switched to the IT side and worked her way up to Senior Imaging Systems Analyst. She was constantly on call and troubleshooting the issues of a growing hospital system. The testament to her knowledge and dedication is how consistently her colleagues reached out to her for assistance.

Beyond her professional life, Patricia was a loving mother to her son, her animals, and all the young people who would call her mom. She cherished time spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories through Saturday football games pulling for her Clemson Tigers, summer trips to the beach, and volunteering with the Richland County Sheriff's Department K9 Godmothers. Becoming a grandmother was a joy for her and she relished the time she was able to spend with her grandkids, Eli (8), Charlie (5), and Holly (4). Her kindness, huge heart, and absolute honesty endeared her to everyone that had the privilege to know her. In addition to her grandchildren, she is survived by her son, Austin Stevenson (Ashley) of Woodbridge, VA.

A Memorial Service for Ms. Stevenson will be held at 11 o'clock on Friday, January 12th, at St Martin's in the Field Episcopal Church, 5220 Clemson Ave, Columbia, SC.
