Mrs. Peggy Hanson Hollis, 90, of Columbia, died on Thursday, February 5, 2026. She was born on October 23, 1935, in Humphreys County, Mississippi, and was the beloved daughter of the late Charles Fredrick Hanson and Edith Bufkin Hanson.
Mrs. Peggy was a devoted member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended and served with the New Beginning Sunday School class. She began her professional career as a dental technician and later earned certification as a National Certified Dental Technician. She was also a proud member of the National Association of Dental Laboratories and served as the Charter State Secretary for the Mississippi Dental Assistants Association. After 31 years of dedicated service, Mrs. Peggy retired from Civil Service at Fort Jackson.
Peggy was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and cherished friend. She was a wonderful baker and talented, self-taught cake decorator. She enjoyed sharing her recipes with her family, passing along her culinary expertise. An avid gardener; Peggy often said, "This is my time with my God and the dirt." She was known for her remarkably green thumb and her ability to grow and revive nearly anything she planted.
Peggy is survived by her children, Michael Eugene Hollis and Susan Hollis both of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Brittany Jeffcoat, Daniel Jones, and Marshall Hollis; greatgrandchildren, Savannah Jeffcoat and Cari Jeffcoat. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents listed above, husband, Carl E. Hollis; daughter, Carol Hollis Sammons; siblings, Jack Rushing and Patti Fergerson.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2659 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church, beginning from 1 o'clock until 2 o'clock. Committal will follow at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Road Columbia, SC.
