Mrs. Peggy Gosnell Peek, 84, of Columbia, died Thursday, October 19, 2017, at her residence. Born in Asheville, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Roy Lee Gosnell and the late Jessie Freshour Gosnell. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Jack A. Peek, Jr., daughter, Rebecca Peek Greer, and son-in-law, Owen (Sonny) Greer. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Jack A. Peek of Asheville and Columbia; her daughters, Pamela Peek Fletcher (Timothy) of Summerville, and Leigh Victoria Peek of Northern Virginia and Columbia; three brothers and sisters, Jim Gosnell (Faye) of Flint , MI, Betty Sue G. Exum (Earl) of Burton, MI, and Steven Vaughn Gosnell (Gail) of Winter Park, FL.; sisters-in-law, Betty Gosnell, of Greer, S.C., and Jean Gosnell of Fruitland, FL; a step-granddaughter, Rebecca Greer of Elgin, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Peek was employed by Southern Bell in Asheville and Columbia as a Service Assistant in the Traffic Department, where, at the time, she was the youngest in the southeast.
Mrs. Peek was an active member of St. Andrews Baptist Church in Columbia for over 50 years, where she taught First Grade Sunday School for 35 years, led and served on the Benevolence Committee, and was the Leader of First Grade Mission Friends, was Brownie Troop Leader at Virginia Wingard Methodist Church, a volunteer teacher in Adult Literacy, and was fully involved at St. Andrews Elementary School as a Room Mother and Health Room Volunteer.
A funeral service for Mrs. Peek will be held 11:30 o'clock, Tuesday, October 24th at St. Andrews Baptist Church, with burial at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30 o'clock.
