Peter William Hughes, 80, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. Born in Berkeley, California, on May 7, 1942, he was the son of the late Morris B. Hughes and Lillian Gobar Hughes.

Peter attended Friends Boarding School in Ohio prior to beginning his career in social services. He retired from the Department of Social Services after serving 30 plus years. Peter was an avid history buff and had a love for reading. He is survived by his sister, Alice V. Cooper.

The graveside service for Mr. Hughes will be held at 1 o'clock on Thursday, December 29th, at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave, Columbia, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
