Phillip F. Beard, 74, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 following a brief illness. Born October 3, 1938 in Denmark, SC, he was the son of the late Hubert F. and Elizabeth Delk Beard. Mr. Beard graduated from Denmark High School in 1956, attended Newberry College, and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He was a member of the Denmark First Baptist Church.

Mr. Beard is survived by his sister, Freda B. Dempsey (Mike); his nephew, Scott M. Dempsey (Shelley); and two great-nephews, Aiden and Cooper Dempsey.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 12 at 11 o'clock at Denmark First Baptist Church, 433 S Beech Ave, Denmark, SC. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Denmark First Baptist Church, PO Box 325, Denmark, SC 29042, or to the University of South Carolina Education Foundation, 1600 Hampton St., Columbia, SC 29208.
