Phyllis Ann Peter, 84, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on May 8, 2024. Born in Concord, North Carolina, on December 9, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Elijah Talbert and Ruby Stegall Talbert.
Mrs. Peter graduated from Hartsell High School in Concord, NC and she attended college at Wingate College in Wingate, NC. While she was receiving her education she enjoyed playing the clarinet in the marching band. She enjoyed working in retail sales and throughout her career, developed a great relationship with the community. In her later years, Mrs. Peter was a substitute teacher for Spring Valley High School. She had a passion for reading and was a talented poet. You could often find Phyllis nose deep in the bible or working on her poetry. Free time was spent knitting, crocheting, or gardening. Mrs. Peter took great pride in being a military spouse and a homemaker for her children. Family and friends fondly remember Phyllis for her kind and generous heart and always expressing a token of appreciation to those she loved. She made sure to keep in touch, whether that was through a phone call or a personal handwritten letter. Phyllis was the sweetest person you would ever meet and will be missed dearly by many.
Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, 1SG Siegfried Peter, US Army (Ret.); daughter, Miranda Peter Edens; grandchildren, McKenzie Grace Edens, English Manning Edens, Kelli Schrand, and Staci Moore; brother, Jerry Talbert (Virginia); niece and nephews, Cathy Jewett (Steve), Tony Garmon, Patty Winn (Sam), Billy Hunsucker (Patricia), and Ginny Adams (Chris). In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Elizabeth Peter; grandson, Phillip Burrows; sister, Dorothy Hunsucker; and nephew, Randy Garmon.
The Graveside Service for Mrs. Peter will be held at 12 o'clock on Thursday, May 23rd, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
