Rachel Jenkins Helms, 91, of Columbia, died Monday, January 27, 2014. Born in Columbia on October 9, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Thomas William Jenkins and Ellen Hay Jenkins. Mrs. Helms worked at Tapp's Department Store, was a member of Shandon Baptist Church and United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Survivors include her daughter, Helen H. Lee of Columbia; grandchildren, Shawn (Greg) Nix of Columbia, Trey (Sarah) Helms of Milwaukee, WI; great-grandchildren, Rachel-Beth Nix, Drew Nix, Hunter Helms and Nathan Helms. In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Helms, Jr.; son, Donald L. Helms III; son-in-law, Don Lee; granddaughter, Donna Howell; brother, Thomas Jenkins; and sister, Virginia Wilson.

A funeral service for Mrs. Helms will be held at 11 o'clock, Friday January 31st at Shandon Baptist Church with The Rev. Barry Gray and The Rev. Greg Nix officiating. Interment will be held at 3 o'clock in Marshville City Cemetery, Marshville, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock.
