Ray Wayne Tobias, 69, of Columbia, died on Thursday, February 15, 2024. Born August 8, 1954, in Columbia, he was a son of the late John Alfred and Mattie Mae Porter Tobias.
Ray was born with disabilities; however, it was never an obstacle in his life. His humble and friendly disposition helped him to make many lasting friendships. Wherever Ray traveled people immediately recognized him and greeted him with a huge smile. Ray loved attending church, singing, and eating at his favorite restaurants, Shealy's BBQ and Bojangles. He touched many lives, but none more than his mother's. She cared for him with all her heart and the two of them were, "Peas in a Pod".
Survivors include his siblings, Virginia Best of Coward, Linda T. Miles (Billy) of Lexington, Terry R. Tobias (Susan) of Gilbert, Brenda Charlene Tobias of West Columbia, Susan Clarice Anderson (Sam) of Gaston and Sandra D. Bagley of Pelion; sister-in-law, Lisa Tobias of Gaston, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Tobias and his brothers-in-law, Bobby Best and Jimmy Bagley.
The funeral service for Mr. Tobias will be held at 11 o'clock, Thursday, February 22nd at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC.
Burial will follow at 2 o'clock at Rose Hill Cemetery, E US-76 Marion SC 29571.
The family will receive guests at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock.
