Raymond L. Schumpert, 81, of Columbia, died Thursday, December 24, 2015. Born on February 26, 1934 in Lexington, SC, he was a son of the late Horace Ira and Carrie Belle Shealy Schumpert. Raymond was married to the late Edna Pelfrey Metze Schumpert, and for 50 years they owned and operated Edna's #1 Restaurant on River Drive. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, and was an active member of the Pacific Masonic Lodge #325, Scottish Rite, Eastern Star, and Jamil Temple.
Raymond is survived by his son, Wendell "Larry" Schumpert; daughters, Merci Hair (Farrell), Cathy Pfisterer (Brian Virnelson) and Mary Roca (Luis); step-daughter, Peggy Mitchum; step-son, William "Bubba" Metze; son-in-law, Tracey Tyner; sister, Carroll Flake (Kitt); and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Tyner; step-daughter, Jewell Metze; brothers, Junior Schumpert, Don Schumpert and Wyman "Chubby" Schumpert; and sisters, Connie Rauch, Lois Griffis and Shirley Ballard.
The funeral service for Mr. Schumpert will be held at 2:30 o'clock, Tuesday, December 29th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with The Rev. Buster Morris officiating. A private entombment will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Malvern Hill Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1415 Malvern Hill Drive, Camden, SC 29020.
