Mr. Raymond Jefferson Talley, Sr., 85, of Columbia, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Born on July 9, 1930 in Walhalla, SC, he was a son of the late William P. Talley and Elizabeth Vinson Talley. Raymond served in the US Army during the Korean War, and later served in the US Navy. After his military service, he worked as a driver in the logging industry for many years, and his final position prior to retirement was with Meals on Wheels, which he truly loved. Raymond was a man of deep faith and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy of Blythewood, as well as the American Legion.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 17 years, Dorothy Totherow Talley; daughters, Jane T. Peebles (Chris) of Lugoff, Joy A. Moak of Lugoff, and Cheryl M. Bayne (Dale) of Easley; sons Raymond J. Talley, Jr. (Cindy) of Lugoff, and Joe E. Matthews, Jr. of Columbia; grandsons, Bud Talley, DJ Hudson, Harley Keefer, Darryl Bayne, Derek Bayne, and Darrin Talley; granddaughters, Jennifer Davis, Amanda Talley, Miranda Williams, Kathy Jordan and Tiffany Jordan; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ella Grace, K.J., Emmilie, and numerous other great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lavada Dunning of Elgin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Hooper Talley; one brother; and four sisters.

The funeral service for Mr. Talley will be held at 2:15 PM, Saturday, June 4th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Rd. Ext., Columbia, with The Rev. Glen McGugan and The Rev. Delores Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM.
