Obituary

Rebecca Jeffcoat Calvitt went home to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of March 10, 2022, in Hoover, Alabama. Rebecca was born on October 28, 1932, the 10th of eleven children born to Anne Lou Harley Jeffcoat and William Henry Jeffcoat in North, South Carolina; and she was the last survivor of all of her siblings. In 1953, she met and married her husband of 50 years, Claude E. Calvitt, who preceded her in death in 2004.

Surviving Rebecca is her son, Claude Jeffrey (Jeff) Calvitt, Jeff's wife and much-loved daughter-in-law, Addie Harper Calvitt; granddaughters, Rebecca Marie Calvitt and Allison Calvitt Barnes, as well as her great-granddaughters, Leila Barnes and Kaelynn Barnes. Her granddaughters and great-granddaughters were the absolute delights of Rebecca's life. Rebecca is also survived by the many nieces and nephews she was graced with by her and Claude's large families.

Rebecca made many, many friends over the course of her life through her working career at Binswanger Glass (Columbia SC), First National Bank (Columbia, SC), and Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina (Columbia), and through the community of Blythewood, SC. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Blythewood for many years. In 2007, Rebecca moved to Durham, NC, where she lived with her son and daughter-in-law. They moved to Hoover, Alabama, in 2015 when Jeff took a job in Birmingham. Rebecca was a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church in Hoover, Alabama, and she loved her pastor and the friends she made there. Rebecca was also an honorary member of the Shaddix Sunday School class of Hunter Street Baptist Church, Hoover, Alabama (Jeff and Addie's church). She loved the members of that class, and they loved her.

Throughout her adult life, Rebecca was an artistic and crafty person. She loved sewing and painting, and in later years she took up quilting and jewelry-making. She gifted her family, extended family, and many friends with quilts and jewelry, and these items will serve as a living reminder of how much she loved all of us.

The funeral service for Mrs. Calvitt will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday, March 26th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock.

A private burial will follow at Ebenezer Methodist Church, 2805 Main St., North, South Carolina 29160.
