Rebecca Nisbet Rencher

Rebecca “Becky” Rencher, 90, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, leaving a life marked by warmth, generosity, and quiet grace. She was the daughter of Walter Olin Nisbet, Jr. and Rebecca Wyse Jones Nisbet.

A native of Charlotte, Becky was born on September 4, 1935, and lived her entire life close to the place she called home. After graduating from Mount Vernon College, she began her career at Alcoa Chemical in downtown Charlotte. There, she met her husband, Edwin Reese “Bud” Rencher, Jr., a native of Mobile, Alabama. They married in 1963 and built a life defined by family, friendship, and a deep sense of home, raising three children together.

The Rencher home on Llewellyn Place became a constant and welcoming presence in the lives of many. She was a gracious and attentive hostess, and she and Bud created a space where neighbors and friends gathered easily and often. Children moved in and out as if it were their own, and her door was rarely closed. She took particular pleasure in her garden, where she spent many hours tending to her flower beds with care and patience.

Known for her gentle spirit and unwavering positivity, Becky was a devoted mother and a cherished friend to many. She faced life with quiet strength, rarely complaining, and always extending kindness to those around her. She was both dependable and deeply caring, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.

A lifelong member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Becky was quietly devoted to her faith and her community. She volunteered alongside her mother at Crisis Assistance Ministry, was an active member of her ladies’ circle, and especially enjoyed helping decorate the sanctuary at Christmastime with her sister Jane and cousins, Genie and Mary.

Becky maintained a rich and engaged social life. She was an enthusiastic bridge player and a member of the New Horizons Book Club, the Colonial Dames, and The Charlotte Assembly. She also cherished her time in Montreat, North Carolina, particularly on the porch of Happy Heights, where she found both rest and connection over many years.

In addition to her parents, Becky was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Rencher; her sister, Jane Nisbet Goode; her brother, W. Olin Nisbet III; and her brother-in-law, Rusty Goode.

She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Mabry (Hank) of Columbia, South Carolina, and Rebecca Kelly of Charlotte, North Carolina; her son, Reese Rencher of Charlotte; her grandchildren, Cate Cook (Will), Fil Mabry (Marion Walker), Lucy Rencher, and Anna Rencher; and her great-granddaughter, Louisa Cook. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marian Nisbet, and her devoted friend and caregiver, Buffy Crawford, whose presence and care brought comfort in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28204; the Montreat Conference Center (Mountain Retreat Association), P.O. Box 423, Montreat, NC 28757; or The Fletcher School, 8500 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC 28270.
