Regina Styles Noble, 94, wife of the late Hugh "Hooty" Noble, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 8. A service of celebration of life will be held at North Trenholm Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 14 at 12:00 PM. The family will receive friends preceding the service at 11:00 AM in the Worship Center.
Regina was born December 24, 1927, in Polk County, TN, but grew up in Trion, GA. She was the fifth of nine children born to Robert Goldston and Mamie Bigham Styles. She was a graduate of Mars Hill College, where upon graduation was asked to be the secretary to the President of the college, where she worked for two years. During that time, she furthered her studies in piano. Then she was asked to return to her hometown to work for an executive with Riegel Textile Corporation. It proved to be providential while there in many ways.
She and her sisters, known as "The Styles Sisters", sang for many years at various churches and other functions. Also, Regina was Music Director at her home church in Trion, Georgia. Through the years she enjoyed serving as an accompanist for many soloists, choirs, and nursing homes. Later, she was offered a position as music director and education secretary at a Baptist church in Greenville, Mississippi. While there, she met her future husband "Hooty" Noble on a blind date at her church and they were married shortly afterward in 1957 on Easter Sunday, April 21. They moved their family to Columbia, SC in 1973 and joined North Trenholm Baptist Church where they sang in the choir for 44 years.
She and Hooty enjoyed being a host family for international students at USC for over 20 years. She maintained her friendships and loved her Chinese students very much.
The living of her life has provided a wonderful template of values for her family to emulate. It was her desire that her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren know and love the Lord. Her knowledge and ability to apply biblical knowledge guided her life. Her life's motto was "Let others see Jesus in me." She described herself as "determined and persistent," not "stubborn". Those of us who knew her will understand this well.
Regina is survived by her son, John Meridoth Noble; daughter, Melody Noble Morris (Tom); grandchildren, Kristen Dudek (Michael); Kayla Jones (Jeremy); and Taylor Noble; great-grandchildren, Aurora Dudek and Oliver Dudek; sisters, Betty Ferrell and Annette Woodard; sisters-in-law, Frances Noble, and Jean Phillips. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her infant grandson, Devin Morris; sisters, Jewel, Mildred, Peggy, and Marlyn; brothers, Robert and Clarence.
The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice, especially caregiver Christine Lopes, nurse, Letra Davis-McDuffie, and Chaplin Princetta White for their loving care during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 N. Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206, or Oliver Gospel Mission, PO Box 7697, Columbia, SC 29202.
