Regina Bauer Shook, "Mom", "Grandma" – sole survivor of her Kansas family of 14, passed from this life on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at the age of 91.
Regina and her twin brother, Gene were born February 22, 1933 in Delia, Kansas. Her life was best defined by her fervent work ethic, having experienced poverty and other effects of the Great Depression and WWII.
She was a strong military wife and maintained deep connections with her military community from Germany to Kentucky, and finally to South Carolina.
Regina retired from the Ft. Jackson Post Exchange, having also worked for C.B. Bouknight, Colonial Stores, and Union Camp, as a bookkeeper.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ray W. Shook, and is survived by their children, Rick Shook and Kay Cook, along with son-in-law, Chris Cook and grandchildren, Jennifer Goss, Andrew Cook, Joshua Shook, Amy Lewis and Annabeth Black.
Regina has six great-grandchildren, whose faces were the only ones she really wanted to see on the annual family calendar.
We will honor Regina's life with a sweet graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC at 12 o'clock, Saturday, May 11th. The family will greet friends following the service at the graveside. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
We hope to see some of Mom's friends and family who meant so much to her, and whom we also cherish.
