Regina (Gina) Walsh, of Blythewood, passed away on November 17th, 2023. Born in Jamaica, New York, on July 31, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Gerald Delmato and Laura Giganti Delmato. The family's proximity to New York City gave Gina a deep appreciation of culture, art, music, and international cuisine (something which she later fostered within her own family).
Her father's job moved the family to Houston, Texas, where she graduated from Clear Lake High School. Gina then earned her bachelor's degree from The State University of New York at Plattsburgh. There she met her husband of 41 years, Dr. Kenneth B. Walsh. Gina worked as a secretary for Cincom Systems, Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later for Doyle Detective Agency in Rochester, New York. However, Gina's greatest passion and blessing in life was raising her children with Ken, and being "Gigi" to her grandchildren.
While a young mother, Gina experienced (what she affectionately referred to as) "the Hound of Heaven '' drawing her near. In Christ, Gina found a steadfast love and an unwavering hope, which were foundational to the way in which she lived her life. Her love for others spilled over into three decades of service in the preschool ministry at Northeast Presbyterian Church. Gina's vibrant spirit, warm smile, and exuberance for life drew both the young and the old to herself. Gina had a genuine interest in others and a knack for remembering details about peoples' lives. It truly was impossible to feel overlooked or undervalued in Gina's presence.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Cari Welsh (Trevor) and Thomas Walsh (Kimberly); grandchildren, Henry Walsh, Oliver Walsh, and Lucia Welsh; siblings, Lisa Janson (Russ), Gerald Delmato (Debbie), and Maria Staub (Michael); as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, along with great nieces and nephews.
The memorial service for Gina will be held at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, November 29th, at Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock in the church atrium. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Puerta del Cielo children's home in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Checks can be written to Northeast Presbyterian Church with Puerta del Cielo written in the memo line, or online at nepresbyterian.org/giving.
