Rhonda K. Phillips, 52, of Elgin, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021. Born November 14, 1968 in Madrid, Spain, she was a daughter of the late Carl J. and Patricia Ann Morgan Phillips. Rhonda graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1986 and then attended Midlands Technical College. She would later earn her bachelor's degree in accounting from Columbia College. Rhonda retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina following 17 years of dedicated employment. She was a member of Tree of Life Congregation and was involved in synagogue activities.
Rhonda got her love of sports early in life. She always considered herself a Tomboy and even broke her arm when she was a child while playing football with her father and brothers. Her favorite teams were the Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs, and the Clemson Tigers. Rhonda loved to read and adored butterflies. She also was an avid art enthusiast.
Survivors include her life partner, Samantha "Sam" G. Jennings; sister, Carla Leyland (Larry) of Elgin; stepdaughter, Kristin Babinger (Justin) of Gaston; grandchildren, Brystin and Annastin Babinger; nephews, Daryl and Kevin; nieces, Ann, Cheryl and Crystal; as well her great nieces and nephews. Since she never had children herself, Rhonda loved her nieces, nephews, and their families as her own. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Alan and Kevin Phillips; niece, Sarah Phillips, and her dear friend, Ann Caraway.
A private service will be held at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC, with Rabbi Sabine Meyer officiating.
