Richard Lemox

Richard Lemox, 84, passed away on April 18, 2026. Born in Orangeburg, South Carolina, he was the son of Lucille and Charles Lemox, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his siblings Walter Lemox, Geneva Wooten, Helen Lemox, and Daisy Dukes. Richard later made his home in Columbia, where he built a life grounded in service, family, and love.

He served proudly in the United States Navy and went on to a long, dedicated career with the Columbia Fire Department, retiring as a Captain. Richard loved fishing, gardening, the outdoors, and most of all, his wife Joanne.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Lemox; his daughters, Denise Posadas (Reynaldo) and Jennifer Stephens (Robert); three grandchildren — Brice Hinson, Megan Stephens, and Hailey Stephens — and three great grandchildren.

To his family, Richard was a strong, loving father and grandfather with a one of a kind sense of humor. He taught us how to fish, how to be tough, and how to face life with resilience. His memory will remain a blessing to all who loved him.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Belmont Baptist Church, 901 Mason Road Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church, beginning at 10 o’clock until 11 o’clock. Burial will follow the service at Memorial Gardens of Columbia, 9301 Wilson Blvd. Columbia, SC.
