Columbia: Richard F. Long, 93, of Columbia, died Friday, August 1, 2014. Born July 21, 1921 in Kansas City, MO, he was the son of the late Harrison Morton Long and Jessie Blackburn Long. Mr. Long was a Charter Member of St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church. Richard served in the US Army in the Philippines and obtained the rank of captain in WWII.
Mr. Long was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and a member of Sigma-Alpha-Epsilon fraternity. Richard was a retired pharmaceutical representative for Roche Laboratories and an avid Gamecock fan.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lillie McCabe Long, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne L. Schubert. The family extends a special thank you to Nellie Pelzer, Nicole, Darryl and other caregivers with DayBreak Adult Care. The family also extends a word of appreciation to Brenda with Compassionate Care Hospice.
The funeral service for Mr. Long will be held 3 o'clock, Monday, August 4th at St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church with The Rev. Jill Zook-Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service in Sturtevant Hall.
