Mr. Richard "Rick' Ernest McGee, 80, of Blythewood, died on Wednesday, November 19th, 2025. Rick was born on November 9, 1945, in Charleston, SC, to Ernest and Mary McGee. After graduating from Anderson University, he served proudly in the United States Marine Corps, an experience that shaped his lifelong sense of discipline, loyalty, and service.
In 1972, Rick began what would become a distinguished 28-year career in law enforcement, serving in multiple capacities during his tenure, including as head of the bomb squad and leader of the department's SWAT and dive teams. Rick was known for his calm presence in crisis, steady leadership, and commitment to public safety. After retiring from active duty, he continued to serve the community by creating and implementing safety standards for Richland County School District 2. His retirement years were also filled with care and service to others; particularly his family, church community, and neighbors.
Among all his roles, Rick's greatest devotion was to his family. He married the love of his life, Elaine, in 1965, and together they built a partnership marked by deep respect, loyalty, and unwavering support. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past fall.
Rick is survived by his wife, Elaine; their children, Stacy (James) and Ricky (Vessela); and four grandchildren, Luke, Wil, Tim, and Alena, who were a great source of pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William.
A graveside service will be held at 11 o'clock on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnel to Towers, or an organization that was dear to him, St. Joseph's Indian School serving Lakota Children.
