Richard Anthony Orf passed away peacefully on December 16th, 2021 at the age of 93. He was born July 26, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio but lived most of his life in Columbia, SC where he retired from Rockwell International.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Anita Bernardin Owens and her children Kathy, Anne, Eddie, Susan, Jeannie, Linda and Deborah and their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Florine and survived by her sons, Mark, Phil and Gary.
Dick was a kind and gentle man. He spent most of his time tinkering around the house. He had an amazing talent for fixing anything and everything. He never missed an opportunity to take Anita to any destination that pleased her. He was an avid baseball fan and loved to watch games on TV with Anita….and a cold Budweiser.
Dick served his country during the Korean War, as a paratrooper, and proudly displayed his American Flag everyday. His mealtime prayer always ended with "God Bless our Troops." He was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Joseph's Church.
A Rosary and visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 28th, from 4 to 6 o'clock in the evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext Columbia, SC 29223. The funeral mass will be held at 11 o'clock on Wednesday, December 29th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3600 Devine Street Columbia, SC 29205.
