Richard John Rapak passed away on July 5, 2016 at the age of 74. Richard was born in Passaic, New Jersey, and graduated in 1963 from Stephens Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by International Harvester in New York, Hewitt Robbins in Columbia, and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, where he retired. Richard was a creative man who loved hearing and telling a good joke, collecting unique items and learning about all things mechanical. Above all, however, he was a generous and kind father, husband, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Ann Healion Rapak, and his second wife, Tabitha Ruth Rapak. He is survived by his daughters, Stacy (Ron) Bowen, Erica (Jon) Carter and Whitney (Juan) Garcia; and his three grandchildren, Ryan (Samantha) Bowen, Rebekah (Jonathan) Ashworth and Jackson Carter.
A private family service will be held at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
