Richard Howard Stobaugh, 73, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on May 4, 2026. He was born on December 3, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Howard Douglas and Eva Dell Tipton Stobaugh.
Rick spent his youth in Eastlake, Ohio, where he developed a love for fast cars—especially Mustangs—and participated in amateur racing. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. Those fortunate enough to hear his stories knew how much he cherished his time in service and the many places he visited during his military career.
After leaving the Navy, Rick remained in Ohio for a few years before moving to California, where he lived for many years and raised his family. During that time, he embraced many passions, including motorcycle riding, serving as a Boy Scout leader, building model airplanes, and attending air shows. Later, he moved to South Carolina with his son to enjoy a quieter lifestyle and reconnect with family members who had also relocated from Ohio.
While living in South Carolina, Rick continued to enjoy his hobbies and met his wife, Dereé, further expanding the family he loved so deeply. He became increasingly involved in his church and was a devoted member of American Legion Post 6 for many years.
Rick was a dedicated and hardworking man whose career focused primarily on mechanical and environmental engineering. He retired from FN Manufacturing. Throughout his life, he was known for being incredibly handy and always “tinkering” in his garage. He was quick to lend a helping hand to friend, stranger, or foe alike, and although he kept a small circle, those he loved were held close to his heart.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Dereé Leonard Stobaugh; his stepson, Calvin Holton III (Ashley Holton); his daughters, Tinamarye Jones (Kevin Jones) and Dawnmarye Stobaugh (Chelsea Stobaugh); his son, Brandon Stobaugh (Omar Troutman); seven grandchildren, Taylor Schwarz, Calvin Holton IV, Jake Jones, Kearstyn Small, Josh Jones, Reagan Holton, and Kylie Jones; and the mother of his children, Jeanmarye Stobaugh.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his sisters, Diane Foran (Gordon Foran) and Jean Clifton (Doug Clifton).
A funeral service for Mr. Stobaugh will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, with Rev. Debbie Miller officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 a.m.
