Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army for more than 20 years, dedicating much of his life to military service. His years in the Army were an important part of the man he was and reflected his commitment, loyalty, and dedication to others.
A caring and loving husband, Richard shared 30 years of marriage with his wife, Sandra Wiles. He will be remembered by those who knew him as a generous man who deeply valued the people in his life. He especially enjoyed visiting with his brother, John, and treasured the time they spent together.
Richard was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed cheering on the North Carolina Tar Heels. He also had a very special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Daisy, whom he loved “to the moon and back.” Daisy was a treasured companion and an important part of his family. He loved his mother-in-law, Ruby Peaks, who passed away February 2026. She always wrote on his cards “To the Big Boss”, which he always enjoyed.
In addition to his wife, Sandra, Richard is survived by his beloved dog, Daisy; his brother, John Wiles and his wife, Dawne, of Rockingham, North Carolina; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
