Robert L. Boyles, 80, of Columbia, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Born in Columbia on June 13, 1933, he was a son of the late Dewey Belton Boyles and Ida Maybell Livingston Boyles. Robert graduated from Columbia High School, and went on to serve in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. He married the former Mary Ruth Timmons on November 18, 1954. He worked for Sutherland Oil and later Benson Oil. Robert was a member of Denny Terrace Baptist Church, was an avid NASCAR fan and amateur historian.
Survivors include his daughter, Deborah (Larry) Gresham of Columbia; grandchildren, Rebekah Lynn (Dexter) Brooks of Boston, Deborah Leigh Ready and Johnathan Robert Gresham, both of Columbia; and nephews, Tim (Ann) Leeming, Richard (Rebecca) Leeming and Randy (Beverly) Boltin; niece, Sharon (Gene) Reynolds. In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by his siblings, Eleanor Leeming, Dorothy Boltin, Dewey Belton Boyles, Jr.; and a grandchild, Savannah Elaine Ready; nephews, Eddie and Gary Bolton.
The funeral service for Mr. Boyles will be held 3 o'clock, Friday, November 1st, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 2 o'clock. The family suggests that memorials be made to Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Pkwy, Columbia, SC 29212.
