Robert James Brown

Robert James “RJ” Brown, 37, of West Columbia, died Friday, July 24, 2026. Born on March 25, 1989, in Riverside, California, RJ was the beloved eldest son of Michael William Brown and Lisa Jacqueline Nelson Brown.

A 2012 graduate of the University of South Carolina, RJ built a successful career as a software engineer, dedicating his talents to Accenture Federal Services. He was the front-end expert, mentoring team members, and working diligently to meet project deadlines.

RJ loved riding his motorcycle, playing video games with his brothers, attending concerts with his sister, and playing pool with friends.

RJ is survived by his parents, Mike and Lisa Brown; siblings, Isaac Brown, David Brown, Jerrod Brown, and Maria Brown; his grandfathers, Bob Brown and James Nelson; and uncles and aunt, J.R. Brown, Mark Brown, Jeff Brown, Julie Sterl, Jim Nelson, Joe Nelson, Pete Nelson, and Tom Nelson. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, extended family members, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Rose Brown and Misue Nelson; uncles and aunts, Andy Lock, Dan Nelson, Ellen Nelson, and Mary Nelson; and his cherished dog, Aries.

Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family and will announce plans when complete.
