Robert Gibson Carter, 85, of Columbia, died on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Born in Lakeland, GA, on December 6, 1938, he was a son of the late Willie Powell Carter and Robert Edward Carter, Sr. Mr. Carter grew up on the family farm, where he learned growing crops, raising livestock, and how to work with his hands. He moved with his wife and 3 children to Columbia, SC in 1970, and was employed by Motor Convoy. Mr. Carter was a faithful member of Gantt Street Baptist Church, where he used his talents for The Lord.
Survivors include his children, Beth Zeagler (Ralph), Joseph Carter, and Kathy Randall (William), all of Lexington; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sondra Spell Carter; and sisters, Jean Young and Martha Carter.
The funeral service for Mr. Carter will be held at 1 o'clock, Monday, February 5th, at Gantt Street Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 12 o'clock. Entombment in Southland Memorial Gardens will be private. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
