Rev. Robert "Bob" Earnest Gibbs, 96, of Columbia, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019. Born October 13, 1922, in Fairfield County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Charlie Alvin Gibbs and Ina Virginia McKinny Gibbs.

Rev. Gibbs was a member of Cornerstone Church in Hudson, NC, until moving to Columbia, SC where he became a member of Hilltop Community Church in Gilbert. He was a retired Assembly of God pastor, serving in Gospel Ministry for more than 75 years. He loved people and never met a stranger. Rev. Gibbs enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel Music and loved talking about the Lord.

Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Gibbs Tew (Jerry); son, Don R. Gibbs (Kay); three grandchildren, Shannon Graves Coward, Melody Gibbs Lindsey and Dony Gibbs; six great-grandchildren, Braxton, Madason, Annason and Harrison Coward, Will Lindsey and Brinleigh Gibbs; special friends and pastors, Pastor Fred Stapleton (Connie) and Pastor DeWitt Harsey (Cathy). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, the late Louise Margaret Greene; one brother and three sisters.

The funeral service for Rev. Gibbs will be held 10:30 o'clock, Friday, January 11th, at Cornerstone Church, 3015 Heffner Place, Hudson, NC, with Pastor Fred Stapleton and Pastor DeWitt Harsey officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 o'clock. Burial will follow at 4 o'clock at Richmond County Memorial Park, 1717 E. Broad Avenue, Rockingham, NC 28379. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
