Obituary

The Rev. Robert "Bob" Elmer Yount, Sr., born in Jackson, Michigan on July 12, 1932, entered glory, following cardiac arrest, Thursday morning, August 8, 2013. He was 81, and was survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Betty Overcash Yount. Surviving with her are their children, Bob Yount, Jr. (Gail), of Centennial, CO; Becky Yount Harrison (Keith), of Florence, SC; Beverly Yount Thompson (Gregg), of Macon, GA; Bill Yount, of Palm Springs, CA; Brenda Yount, of Arlington, VA; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Yount Hewitt, of Chicago, IL; as well as multiple nephews, nieces, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Preceding him to glory are his brother, Louis Arthur Yount, and sister, Maxine Yount Huff, both of Jackson, MI.

Infamously known for quoting "I was cut out to be a preacher, but wasn't sewn up right", Bob had been active in ministry since his graduation from CBC (CIU) in 1955. After eight years on full-time staff with Young Life, he began a career with E.R. Squibb & Sons Pharmaceuticals, while continuing serving on associate staff with YL for 15 more years. Retiring early from Squibb as Southeastern Regional Director, and countless opportunities to witness for Christ in the business world for 26 years, Bob became the Alumni Director for CIU, and spent six "official" years ministering to students and alumni. He had also served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church of America, and was active in Bible Study Fellowship for a number of years, helping start three men's classes. Most recently he and his wife ministered sharing God's Word to the community of Laurel Crest. He is loved, and will be missed greatly here, by his family and friends.

Bob and Betty's life verse was Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them". They had this verse inscribed in their wedding bands to remind them that this was to be their life work and purpose. August 13th, 2013 would mark their 59th anniversary, and their children can testify to their faithfulness to their calling.

The memorial service for Rev. Yount will be held 11 o'clock, Monday, August 12th at The First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, with a reception to follow in Jackson Hall. The Rev. David H. Lauten and The Rev. Neal R Mathias will officiate. The family will gather for a private committal in Elmwood Cemetery prior to the service. Those who wish to offer a remembrance are encouraged to send memorials to CIU, PO Box 3122, Columbia, SC 29230-3122, Young Life – Columbia - SC22 Area Office, PO Box 5772, Columbia, SC 29250-5772, or to The First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion St, Columbia, SC 29201.

"I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies." John 11:25
