Obituary

Robert Scott Faulker died at his home on July 7, 2016. He was 84 years of age. The eldest son of the late Thomas and Mae Faulkner of Cookstown, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, he received his early education at local schools and studied Electrical Engineering at the College of Technology Belfast. He began his career in management with the Shipbuilding and Engineering Firm of Harland & Wolff Belfast and Subsequently emigrated to Canada in 1956 to join the Firm of Davie Shipbuilding Company in Quebec City, PQ. He was appointed manager of its General Engineering Division. In 1966 he joined Dominion Coal and Steel Corporation (DOSCO) in Montreal PQ as VP Manufacturing, and that was followed by his appointment to President and CEO of Hawker Siddeley Canada, the parent company of DOSCO. He came to Columbia, SC in 1978 as President and CEO of Champion Road Machinery International and remained with that Company until his retirement in 1988.

Bob was an active sportsman throughout his life. In his schoolboy and teen years, he rowed and played rugby. He took up golf when he came to Canada and that remained his favorite sport for the rest of his life. He was a past member of Royal Quebec G.C., Royal Montreal G.C. and St. Georges G.C. Toronto. When he came to Columbia he joined Spring Valley Country Club and remained an active member until his death. Bob was also an avid hunter and rarely missed an annual hunting trip to Canada in over 30 years.

An artisan at heart, Bob will be best remembered for his skill in repairing and restoring treasured and sentimental pieces of porcelain and other artifacts. He also collected and restored antique sports cars, mainly of the English marque.

He is predeceased by his father, mother and younger brothers, William and Stanley. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Noel, and her children, Mac McIntyre, Chris McIntyre (Debra), and Meg Sileo (Michael), five sisters, two brothers and their children.

A service will be held at 2 o'clock, Sunday, July 10th, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia, with The Very Reverend Timothy Jones and The Reverend Canon Patricia C. Malanuk officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Stirling Room. Mr. Faulkner's cremains will be returned to his family and his native homeland of Northern Ireland.
