Robert W. Gist, Jr., 72, of Elgin, died Sunday June 5, 2022. Born January 8, 1950, in Union, SC, the was a son of the late Robert Wylie Gist, Sr. and Helen Foster Gist.

Rob was a 1967 graduate of Union High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Clemson University. Following college, he was employed by Duke Power. Rob would eventually retire as a Vice President at Breakthru Beverage following a career in the beverage industry that spanned more than 30 years. He enjoyed studying history, reading, collecting artwork, and listening to classic rock music. Rob loved to travel and cherished many memories from vacationing with his family. Most especially the family ski trips out west he looked forward to each year.

Survivors include his children, Amber Gist Laney (Brian) of Chapin, Courtenay Alexis Gist of Greenville, SC, Jedidiah Mahlon Gist of Boston, MA; grandchildren, Avery Elise Laney and Isla Brooks Laney; as well as his nieces, Adrien Looper and Amanda Yendell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ron Gist.

A celebration of life for Rob will be held at 4 o'clock, Monday, June 20th at CITY ART, 1224 Lincoln St, Columbia, South Carolina 29201. A reception will follow until 7 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
