Robert "Bobby" Guy Haynes, 79, of Chapin, died Saturday, November 26, 2022. Born June 1, 1943, in Columbia, he was a son of the late Guy Henry Haynes, Jr. and Mary Poston Haynes.
Retiring in 2001, Bobby enjoyed a successful career that spanned more than 3 decades in the food brokerage industry. His journey began in 1963 when his father hired him as a salesman with his company, Haynes-Grube Co. He received many accolades for his work but was most proud of being named the Retail Salesman of the Year in 1982 by the South Carolina Food Retailers Association, as a representative of Martha White Flour Company.
Bobby was an avid golfer and member of the Mid Carolina Club in Prosperity. He also enjoyed fishing, cooking on the grill, and spending time with family and friends on Lake Murray. Bobby was a devoted Gamecock Club member who cheered for all sports at The University of South Carolina. Bobby helped his community, serving on advisory boards for the Irmo Police Department and Mid Carolina Cooperative. He enjoyed coaching both of his sons and his grandson in youth sports. He was a devoted Christian and charter member of Gateway Baptist Church in Irmo. He was a lover of all animals and was particularly fond of the many cats he and Debbie adopted and loved over the years.
Bobby's sense of humor, kindness, and love for his family and friends made him a special person. He never met a stranger and had many lifelong friends from his childhood including his years as a Shamrock at Eau Claire High School. His greatest love was his family, and he was especially proud of his grandchildren.
