Robert Sims Hennies, 93, of Columbia, died Thursday, May 3, 2018. Born March 29, 1925, in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late Boyne Hennies and
Bird Sims Hennies.
Mr. Hennies grew up in Ebenezer Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher and was one of the oldest members. Robert was a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea, where he served aboard the USS Schmitt. He was employed as a Senior Draftsman with Dupont for 36 years, and served many years as a volunteer with the Alston Wilkes Society.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years; Virginia Calloway Hennies; daughter, Donna G. Hennies; and grandchildren, Dani (Jim) Sigman and Robert Richardson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hennies was preceded in death by 2 brothers.
The service for Mr. Hennies will be private. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Church Building Fund, 1301 Richland Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
