Robert E. "Bobby" Hodges died peacefully in the comfort of his home Saturday, July 1, 2017. Born November 20, 1932 in Bath, New York to the late Erwin and Minnie L. Hodges, Bobby was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all he met. After serving two years during the Korean War, Bobby became a member of American Legion Post #6, and the 40 and 8. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1987, and was a member at Grace Baptist Church, West Columbia. Taking pride in his country, Bobby was a strong Patriot and loved attending Drum and Bugle Corps Competitions.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Hobby Hodges; daughter, Nancy (Robbie) Karst; son, David Hodges; daughter-in-law, Janice Hodges; grandchildren, Tyler (Laysha) O'Shields, Kelly and Benjamin Hodges, Andrew (Jackie) Karst; great grandchildren, Peyton, Greyson, Orrin and Riley O'Shields, Tucker Karst, and Baby O'Shields expected January 4, 2018. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hodges is preceded in death by a son, Robbie Hodges; daughter, Carolyn Anne Hodges; as well as grandson, Alex Hodges.
The funeral service for Mr. Hodges will be held 1 o'clock, Wednesday, July 5th at Grace Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Egerdahl and Dr. David Smith officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service starting at 12 o'clock. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church at 416 Denham Ave, West Columbia, SC, 29169 or to the charity of one's choice. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
