Robert Moss Kirby, Jr., 61, of Columbia, died on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Born in Columbia, SC, on November 4, 1962, he was the son of the late Lt. Col. (USAF) Robert Moss Kirby, Sr. and Anita Coutsos Kirby.
Kirby, as he was called by friends, was a member of the Scottish Rite and a Master Mason of Boyleston 123 Lodge. He was a lifelong fan of the Carolina Gamecocks and NASCAR, as well as an avid model craftsman, military historian, and motorcycle enthusiast.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara K. Smith; nieces and nephew, Caroline Smith (Bernie), Carlisle Smith (Sally) and Blythe Emens (Trent); as well as great-nieces and nephews, Kinley Warlick, Layken Spigner, Caden Smith, Austin Pelfrey, Amelia Bolin, Isabel Bolin, Ellison Emens and Erskine Emens; and his dearest Margot Ewing.
The graveside service for Mr. Kirby will be held at 11 o'clock, Thursday, November 7th, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Wednesday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
