Robert Lee Klein, 76, of West Columbia, died on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Mr. Klein was born February 19, 1948, in Peoria, Illinois. He was the son of Kenneth Joseph Klein and Mildred Tucker Klein.
He is survived by his sister Jane (George) Lang, daughter Audrey Klein, son Conrad (Nina) Klein, and two grandchildren: Taylor Klein and Brock Klein.
He was an active and accomplished individual, known for his achievements in high school sports before serving his country in the Vietnam War. During his time in the army, he displayed exceptional courage and was honored with both a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his service. Achieving the rank of Sergeant, he showed leadership and dedication during his time in the military, receiving an honorable discharge.
Following his military service, Robert spent 41 years working for the US Postal Service, showcasing his commitment to his work and community. In his retirement, he found joy in spending time with his family, his car collection, and buying and selling at auctions.
Robert was also an avid fan of wrestling, with a particular fondness for Hulk Hogan, who he was able to meet and interact with on several occasions. Robert had a passion for life, and left a memorable impression on anyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The funeral service for Mr. Klein will be held at 4 o'clock, Wednesday, May 8th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 3 o'clock.
