Obituary

Robert D. Thompson, 87, of Columbia, died Thursday, February 12, 2015. Born July 31, 1927 in Harrison County, MO he was a son of the late Clay and Jewel Nigh Thompson. A graduate of Denver University he was the former Economic Development Director for the Guthrie, OK Chamber of Commerce. The star of the TV show called "Captain Bob" in Rockford, IL he spent many years in radio and television. A member of Eason Memorial Baptist Church, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene Marlow Thompson; daughters; Terrie Pantel of Moore, OK, Robyn (Todd) Pendleton, Norman, OK, Shannon (Cam) Oury, Lawrence, KS; son, Clay (Debbie) Thompson, Virginia; step-sons, Rob (Sherri) Whitlock, Ben (Sheryl) Whitlock all of Columbia; stepdaughter Penny (Joe) Hurley, Guthrie, OK; 35 grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Thompson.

The funeral service for Mr. Thompson will be held at 3 o'clock, Sunday, February 15th at Eason Memorial Baptist Church with The Rev. David Spears officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:30 o'clock. Memorials may be made to Eason Memorial Baptist Church, P. O. Box 564, Eastover, SC 29044. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
