Robert (Bob) George Van Horne of Blythewood, SC, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, January 25,1964 to his parents Dolores Manslow Van Horne and George Robert Van Horne, II. He had wonderful memories of growing up in Pennsylvania with his family and friends.
Bob was a graduate of Bethel Park High School in Pennsylvania and later attended Midlands Technical College. Bob served in the U.S Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic (Hydraulics) aboard the USS JFK and the USS Forrestal. He was proud to have served his country.
Bob was employed in different manufacturing jobs in Pennsylvania and then South Carolina and would make quick friends with all of his coworkers. He most recently enjoyed working with his friends at Kroger.
A lover of all animals, Bob especially loved his cats and took exceptional care of them. He had a special way with animals and they all loved him. He would also care for any strays that wandered into the yard.
Bob was a beloved member of Christian Life Church of Columbia for many years. His love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus, was evident with how he lived his life. There was never an opportunity he would not take to share the Gospel message with anyone he could.
Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Cynthia Van Horne; and brother, Timothy Van Horne. He is survived by his loving sister, Katrina Van Horne as well as other family members and many dear friends who were like family to him.
He was a wonderful and faithful friend to all and he loved unconditionally. His absence here on earth has left a void that no one could fill, but we know he is in the Lord's presence full of joy. Bob is and will always be greatly missed.
A celebration of life for Bob is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 12 o'clock in the Brown Chapel of Christian Life Church, 2700 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210 followed by the burial at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 2 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
