Robert Nelson Washburne, 84, of Columbia, died on Monday, October 3, 2022. Born in Mt. Kisco, NY, on November 22, 1937, he was a son of the late Nelson LeRoy Washburne and Marguerite Virginia Beadle Washburne.

Mr. Washburne retired from Orange Water & Sewer Authority and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He enjoyed classical music and reading books; specifically, Civil War related.

Survivors include his sons, Robert Nelson Washburne, II, Michael Arthur Washburne (Christie), Marshall Allen Washburne (Millie); step-children, Kenyon Gibson, Mina Hegaard and Peronneau "Peri" Van DeHey; grandchildren, Hannah, Lilly, Alexandria, Samantha and Luke Washburne, Sally Mott, and Anne and Elle VanDeHey; as well as a brother, Charlie Washburne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie Anne Washburne; and his wife, Ella Kenyon Washburne.

The graveside service for Mr. Washburne will be held at 12 o'clock, Monday, October 10th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 until 11:30 o'clock, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
