Rolland E. Greenburg III

Rolland Edwin (Ron) Greenburg,III., was born on March 6, 1958, in Waukegan, Illinois. Throughout his life, Ron demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education, justice, and the people he loved.

His educational journey began at New Mexico Military Institute, where he graduated from the high school program in 1976 and later earned an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the Junior College in 1978. During his time at New Mexico Military Institute, Rolland completed the U.S. Army ROTC Advanced Camp at Fort Riley, Kansas, in the summer of 1977, earning the distinction of being RECONDO Qualified—an honor achieved by fewer than five percent of ROTC Advanced Camp cadets nationwide.

In 1980, Ron graduated from Denmark Technical College in Denmark, South Carolina, with a certification in Residential Electricity. From 1980 through 1983, he worked for Allied General Nuclear Services as a Team Leader with the onsite Special Protective Security and Response Force at the Barnwell Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing Facility.

Ron continued his education at the University of South Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice in 1986. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1989 and became a member of the South Carolina Bar.

For 35 years, Ron practiced law in Columbia, South Carolina, including 30 years as the owner of his own law practice. His legal career reflected his lifelong dedication to criminal justice and his commitment to serving others through the law.

Throughout his academic career, Rolland was recognized for his scholarship, leadership, and service. He was a member of Lambda Alpha Epsilon, the American Criminal Justice Association, through the New Mexico Military Institute chapter; Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society, through the University of South Carolina chapter; Gamma Beta Phi, the National Collegiate Honor and Service Society; and Golden Key National Honor Society through the University of South Carolina chapter. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Rolland E. Greenburg, Sr., CAPT, USN (Ret.), and Vera Louise (Wuchner) Greenburg.

He is survived by his daughter, Megan Fitzpatrick and her husband, Randy, of Columbia, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Jackson and Lawsyn; and his three brothers: David S. Greenburg, LtCol, USMC (Ret.), and his wife, Lisa, of Daniel Island, South Carolina; Joseph A. Greenburg, Professional Engineer, and his wife, Luanne, of Easley, South Carolina; and James R. Greenburg, CDR (Ret.), and his wife, Cynthia, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina.

He is also survived by his five nieces, Nicki, Kate, Emily, Claire, and Jessica, and seven grandnieces and grandnephews, Brianna, Savannah, Marissa, Allison, Leo, Ruby, and Rory. Ron leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to those who mattered most to him. He will be deeply missed by his family, and friends, and his memory will live on through the generations who follow him.
