Ronald Miller, Sr., 70, of Columbia, SC died suddenly on September 2, 2015. Born in Blytheville, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Norma Crowe Miller and Daniel Everett Miller. He earned a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in English and Music from Memphis State (now The University of Memphis) and a Master of Arts from The University of South Carolina. He taught English in South Carolina public schools for thirty years and had started his forty-fifth year as organist at First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, SC, where he had also been a member for forty five years.
Surviving are: his wife, Henrietta (Retta) Sanders Miller; his son, Dr. Ronald Eugene Miller, Jr.; his brother, Everett Dewayne Miller; his brother in-law and sister in-law, Alexander Mullings Sanders, Jr. and Zoe Dutrow Sanders; his niece, Zoe Caroline Sanders; and his great nephews, Alexander Sanders Nettles and William Norman Nettles, Jr.
A memorial service for Mr. Miller will be held 2 o'clock, Sunday, September 6th, at The First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Derek W. H. Thomas, The Rev. L. Craig Wilkes, The Rev. David H. Lauten, and The Rev. Johnnie Davis officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following in Jackson Hall and other times at the residence. Interment in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Cemetery will precede the service. Elders and Deacons of The First Presbyterian Church are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers.
