The funeral service for Ronald Earl Roberts, 92, will be held at 11 o'clock, Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the graveside in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Tuesday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. Memorials may be made to College Place United Methodist Church, 4801 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.

Mr. Roberts, husband of the late Betty V. Schilling Roberts, was born June 30, 1921 in Columbia. He was a son of the late W. C. Roberts, Sr. and Lillian Lee Roberts. An avid fisherman and hunter, he retired from the US Postal Service after 38 years and retired again after 10 years of service with SCE&G. Mr. Roberts was a former member of the Apollo Choir. He proudly served his country for four years in the US Army Air Force during WWII and was a member of American Legion Post 6.

Mr. Roberts was a charter member of St. John United Methodist Church in Denny Terrace, and most recently, a member of College Place United Methodist Church. He was a Certified Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church for 40 years and was a member of the Columbia, SC Rose Society. He also served on the US Postal Service Credit Union Board of Directors.

Survivors include his brothers, Emerson (June) Roberts of Columbia, W.A. "Buddy" (Linda) Roberts of Lexington; sister, Betty (Roger) Kinard of Springdale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, the love of his life, Betty V. Schilling Roberts; brothers; Elmer Lee Roberts, Bill Roberts and Melvin Roberts.
