Ronnie D. Thompson

Ronnie Dale Thompson, 68, of Columbia, died on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Born in Columbia, SC, on February 3, 1958, he was the son of the late Melvin Thompson and Martha Burns Thompson. Ronnie retired from the Columbia Fire Department as a Captain. He was a long-time Master Mason and member of the Scottish Rite, where he received the honorary designation of a 33rd Degree Mason.

Survivors include his daughters, Alison Motley and Julie Lancaster (Joe); grandchildren, Rhett Motley, Bryson Motley, Abby Motley, Katie Lemmon, Bella Lemmon and Will Lancaster; as well as his sister, Melba Carter (Reg).

In accordance with Mr. Thompson’s wishes, no services will be held. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SC Firefighters Association, 111 Westpark Blvd, Columbia, SC 29210.
